ICG becomes IIS (Deemed to be University)
The International College for Girls (ICG), a pioneer institution in women’s education, was established in 1995 as an affiliated college of the University of Rajasthan. Starting with just 56 students and 7 faculty members, ICG became a postgraduate college by 1999. Today, it proudly hosts over 3500 students, 208 faculty members, and 46 technical and non-teaching staff members.
The pursuit of academic excellence at ICG received significant recognition when the college was accredited with an A+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous body of the University Grants Commission (UGC). It is the only college in Rajasthan to receive this distinction and was also recognized as a Model College by the Government of Rajasthan. A survey conducted by A.C. Nielsen for India Today ranked ICG the best college in Rajasthan across various faculties for several consecutive years.
A major milestone in ICG's journey was achieved in 2007-08, when it was granted Autonomous Status by the UGC for a period of six years. This autonomy was aimed at enhancing the quality of higher education in India, enabling ICG to:
- Restructure and redesign its curriculum
- Prescribe its own admission rules
- Ensure academic and operational freedom for its faculty
- Develop innovative methods for assessment and result processing
- Use modern educational technologies
- Promote progressive and healthy academic practices
ICG was further recognized under Phase-II of the UGC’s “College with Potential for Excellence” (CPE) scheme, being among the top 50 colleges in India selected for this honour.
The most notable achievement came when the Ministry of Human Resource Development (Government of India) conferred the status of “Deemed to be University” under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. With this, International College for Girls transitioned into IIS (Deemed to be University), Jaipur.
This new status has empowered the institution with the autonomy to set its own academic agenda — including designing curricula, teaching methodologies, and awarding degrees. All academic programmes under IIS (Deemed to be University), Jaipur are approved by the UGC and accredited by NAAC. The University has also been listed in the ‘A’ category of institutions reviewed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India — further reinforcing its commitment to excellence in higher education.
